I'm living a teenage dream... shh!

Since I started this blog, everywhere I look I find ideas for new posts. This one came to me as I sat in traffic on the way to work the other day. Before I start, I want to preface this post by telling you a little about my musical tastes. I'm more of a rock girl than a pop fan, although not heavy rock... I suppose I'm a little middle-of-the-road. I love live gigs and have seen loads of bands live - U2, Foo Fighters, Coldplay, RHCP, REM.

Since discovering Twilight, the soundtracks have been one of my favourite elements - mostly Twilight and Eclipse, not so much New Moon. I have also developed my love for Muse, Collective Soul, Vampire Weekend (nice name!), Florence + the Machine... to name a few.

Anyhoo, that wasn't really what I was planning to discuss tonight. As I was saying, I was driving to work and was subjected to bubblegum pop. I know I coulda changed the station but for the sake of this post, roll with it.

I started listening to the lyrics from Katy Perry's 'Teenage Dream' and it struck me - she's singing about my relationship with Edward. And not just canon Edward... but many, many of the Ficwards too.

Bella’s heart, well, we all know what happened there. It’s idea of the electric touch of his skin that certainly has many a twitard drooling at their screens/books/laptops and imagining, in our teenage dreams, being in her place. Lucky bitch.

This really sums up pretty much the whole saga for me and I bloody love it. Who doesn’t love a good HEA? And can you even imagine an eternal HEA with this fine specimen? Oh, wait, of course you can.

Let me just get a few things straight...

Hey! So firstly, thank you all SO MUCH for the awesome feedback about TwiKiwi. Your comments, tweets, Facebook messages and emails have been so supportive, I've had some serious warm-fuzzies!

For any of you who first heard about TwiKiwi on Facebook - bad news. My account (Iheart Fiftyshades) has been disabled due to it being 'fake' and me 'impersonating' someone else. Do they not know that Fifty is real? Hello? So yeah, I'm not on FB anymore.... and there's no way I'm outing myself by using my RL Facebook account to publicise the blog! (I'm comfortable with my addiction, but not that comfortable).

Before I get into the good shit - the twi-gossip, Rob, fan fiction, Rob, Breaking Dawn news, Rob.... Ahem. Yeah. There's a couple of things I wanted to tell you a couple of things about kiwis before I go any further into the blogosphere.

The term 'kiwi' gets used pretty widely around these parts. I thought now was as good a time as any to tell you what a kiwi actually is.

This little fella is our national bird - the kiwi. Hence the image on my blog banner. He's a little nocturnal bird who is endangered and very scarcely seen. I'm going on a hiking trip in about six weeks to see some wild kiwi and I'm super excited!

The term 'kiwi' is also often used to describe these:

Kiwifruit. Mmmm!

In New Zealand, these little fuzzy pieces of goodness are called kiwifruit. I know they're commonly known as 'kiwis' elsewhere in the world but I really didn't want you to think I'd named my blog after a fruit!

The locals around here are commonly referred to as 'kiwis' too, hence, I'm the TwiKiwi. And damn proud of it!

My first ever blog post - Welcomes and Introductions

Welcome to TwiKiwi, the newest blog on the twi-block. Allow me to take a little time to introduce myself, my twi-experience to date and my bloggy plans…

My blogger / twitter handle is @I_heart_Fifty (more on that later). I am a 30 year old single gal from Auckland, New Zealand who fell down the Twilight rabbit hole a little over a year ago. In real life, I have a relatively stressful job in management of a national charity in the healthcare field.

A few of my friends and family know that I’m a Twilight fan but I try and keep it all on the DL as much as possible, with one exception. My best friend in the world, the gorgeous and amazing Sparkly Jul, is as engrossed in Twitardia as I am and is a writer of fan fiction (for which I am her beta). You can find a link to her FFn profile at the bottom left of this page.

So I first read the saga in July 2009 and I was hooked. I then watched Twilight, waited patiently for New Moon, listened to the saga on audiobook, and re-read. Twice. I had never really ventured online for any of my twi-needs…. That was until about January of this year. Jul was working a nightshift when she did some blog searching and sent me a link to a little site called Twitarded. The rest is, as they say, history. I read the entire archive of JJ & STY’s hilarity in about a week, and hung on their every word.

I can’t believe I’ve got this far down my first post without yet mentioning Rob. Mr Pattinson, aka the Precious, one of the most attractive men on the planet. I know you all agree with me so there’s no need to elaborate except to say that I can guarantee this blog will continue with regular RPattz worship. There will also be homage to the other men of the saga: Peter, Jackson, Kellan…. But there will never, ever, be pics of Taylor on this blog. Sorry Team Jacob fans, this is not the place for you.

As I heard mention on Twitarded of this thing called ‘Fan Fiction’ I was like, what the? To this day I can’t quite remember what the first fic I read was, but Clipped Wings was up there pretty early on in my fic career. Talk about start strong! I have read a huge amount of fic now and can proudly (?) say that I’ve read a grand total of about 3 real books since discovering fic! Then in about May I got a Twitter account, and met some fuckawesome people online – you know who you are.

My Twitter handle is named, of course, for the king of Twilight fan fiction, Fifty Shades, from Master of the Universe by Snowqueens Icedragon. If for some reason you have no idea what I’m talking about, as soon as you’re done on this page you best get yourself over to www.50shades.com.
